The Lasik Experience

I have done it.

Actually, I have done it like 1 month plus ago (on the 20th of June). I attempted to correct the ridiculously high myopia I have since JC (1100 degrees) by having LASIK done.

Before you readers go 'OOoH' and 'AHhhhh" and clamber for my advice, you should all know that right now...I am experiencing problems with my vision.

This is not the horror stories you read online about LASIK Surgery gone wrong. I have no halos and night vision is pretty okay. They were there at first but have all together faded after a few weeks. I was able to see very clearly for a day or so.

BUT....barely 1 month later, incredibly, my myopia started to increase. My vision, which had been stable for almost a decade increased.

It got so bad that it triggered panic attacks and mood swings in me. I had already lost the 'perfect' vision promised by LASIK and promptly called the Clinic which did my eyes for a review. During which, the opthamologist calmly told me my eyesight is now '125 degrees' on both eyes. Only if it stablizes will they attempt to try enhancement. Right now, I am waiting.

Two days ago, I came down with a viral flu. Afterwhich, I again noticed my vision worsening. Now, I can no longer read the sub-titles on the TV programmes.

The emotional roller coaster is hell with this stupid decision to make my eyes right. Instead, it appeared that I had awaken the sleeping beast.

For 10 years, my eyesight had increased from 0 to 1100. Only when I popped on contact lenses did it stop increasing at all. And I was able to grow up and move on with my life. Now, with Lasik, I appeared to have destablize my own eyeballs. God knows what is my next option.

1) Glasses? If they can stop the increase, sure.
2) Contacts? If my eyeballs, after going through the ordeal of cutting open the corneas, can still accept them, I will.
3) Enhancement? I dare not do any more invasive surgery.

In short, I had totally regretted going for LASIK. I was perfectly fine with my glasses and contacts. If I had to blame anyone, it will be three persons: my aunt, my mum and me.

1) My Aunt: Whom after forcing her son to go for LASIK, turned her attention to me, badgering me to go for this costly (AND risky) operation for no good reason.

2) My mum: Who graciously said she will foot the bill after I declared I will never spend this amount of money on my eyes.

3) Me: For being overly optimistic and not considering the negative consequence. But can you blame me? When my sister and cousin have gone through the same operation with no ill effects.

Right now, I just hope I can see the world clearly again.
